Cold Plunge & Sauna in Boston: How to Choose a Sauna or Studio
How to choose between Boston-area outdoor sauna villages, private contrast suites, a banya-style spa, and a wellness club, with what to check about seasons, gender-specific days, and booking.
By PlungeSpots editorial · How we research · Updated
Boston's sauna and cold plunge options run from Nordic-style sauna villages, some of them fully outdoors, to private suites and a banya-style spa in Newton. Several venues sit just outside the city in Somerville, Chelsea, and Newton, so check the address against how you plan to travel.
This guide groups the Boston-area venues in our directory by format and lists what to confirm before booking. It is not a ranking. We checked each venue's details against its own website on 9 October 2026; terms change, so confirm them with the operator.

Nordic sauna villages
Moki Sauna Allston is a fully outdoor sauna village with two traditional saunas, a large multi-person cold plunge, and a changing tent with lockers. Being outdoors, it is worth checking the season, the weather, and whether it is operating before you plan a visit.
Moki Sauna South Boston has three indoor traditional saunas and an indoor cold plunge, plus a courtyard with its own sauna and outdoor plunges, and bookable private sauna rooms.
Both run social sessions, private rentals, packages, and memberships. Social sessions mean sharing the sauna and plunge with other guests; choose a private room if you would rather not.
Private contrast suites
SWTHZ South Boston and SWTHZ Assembly Row in Somerville run 60-minute private suite sessions with an infrared sauna, cold plunge, and vitamin C shower.
Sauna Suites in Chelsea offers self check-in private suites with an infrared sauna, cold plunge, red light, shower, and lounge, booked for one to four hours for up to four guests. Self check-in means there may be no staff on site during your session, so plan accordingly and do not plunge alone.
Banya-style spa
Kelo Spa & Steam in Newton Highlands has a sauna built from kelo timber, a steam room, a cold plunge, and a lounge, with robe and towel service. General admission is a three-hour reserved visit, walk-ins depend on availability, and days are men-only or women-only, so check the schedule for your date.
Wellness club
Remedy Place Boston in the Seaport offers a guided hot-and-cold Contrast Suite, sauna suites, guided ice baths, and a breathwork ice bath class, alongside cryotherapy, red light, compression, and IV services. Non-members can book, and memberships are offered.
Small sauna studio
Soft Space Wellness at Bow Market in Somerville has a traditional Finnish sauna for about four people and a rainfall shower for cooling down, with massage and acupuncture. It has no cold plunge, which suits people who want a quiet traditional sauna.
Booking and what to bring
Most Boston-area venues book online, and the outdoor sauna villages are weather-dependent, so bring warm layers for afterwards. Our first-visit checklist covers the questions to ask, and what to bring covers packing and swimwear. If you visit regularly, compare packs and memberships using our membership or drop-in guide.
Cold water and heat are not suitable for everyone. If you have a health condition or any doubt, speak to a healthcare professional before booking.
How we compiled this guide
We list venues that offer sauna or cold plunge access to the public in the Boston area and checked each one's facilities and booking model against its own website on 9 October 2026. We have not visited them, and inclusion is not an endorsement. Paid placements, if any, are labelled. Operators can suggest a correction. See our editorial policy.
