Cold Plunge & Sauna in San Diego: How to Choose a Studio
How to choose between San Diego-area private contrast suites, breathwork and plunge studios, recovery studios, and an infrared studio with cold showers, with what to check about location, session format, and booking.
By PlungeSpots editorial · How we research · Updated
San Diego's sauna and cold plunge options are mostly studios rather than bathhouses: private infrared-and-plunge suites, studios that pair the plunge with breathwork or yoga, and recovery studios where the cold tub is one step in a longer session. Venues run from La Jolla to Chula Vista, and several sit outside the city in Chula Vista, Carlsbad, and Encinitas, so check the address against how you plan to travel.
This guide groups the San Diego venues in our directory by format and lists what to confirm before booking. It is not a ranking. We checked each venue's details against its own website on 9 October 2026; terms change, so confirm them with the operator.

SWTHZ One Paseo in Carmel Valley runs 60-minute sessions in private suites with an infrared sauna, cold plunge, and vitamin C shower, plus Ammortal sessions. Intro sessions, drop-ins, packs, and memberships are booked online.

Calor Sauna Studios in Carlsbad Village is a women-owned studio with three private infrared sauna rooms and one room that pairs an infrared sauna with a cold plunge. If you want the plunge, confirm that you are booking that room.
Private suites suit people who want to control their own timing or would rather not share. Ask whether help is available nearby during your session; our first-visit checklist covers the questions about supervision.
Breathwork and plunge studios
Soul Plunge in La Jolla offers open cold plunge and infrared sauna sessions alongside yoga and breathwork classes, with red light therapy and showers on site. Access is through an intro offer, class or plunge and sauna packs, and monthly or annual memberships.
Breathe Degrees lists studios in Carlsbad and at Liberty Station, with breathwork and yoga classes that include access to cold plunge pools and an infrared sauna, plus guided open plunge and sauna sessions. An intro offer, credit packs, and memberships are available; check which location suits you.
At both, confirm whether you are booking a class or an open session, and whether you will share the plunge with other guests.
Recovery studios
r3 recover in La Jolla is built around a guided 60-minute sequence of compression, infrared sauna, cold plunge, hot plunge, and red light therapy. Intro offers, single sessions, packages, and memberships are available.
TruSelf Sporting Club is a gym in Allied Gardens offering private 30-minute cold plunge and infrared sauna contrast sessions, plus Hyperice and Normatec recovery rooms, red light therapy, and personal training. Single sessions, packs, and memberships are booked in the club app.
Club House Enc in Encinitas includes cold plunge, sauna, red light therapy, compression boots, and a vibration plate in each 50-minute session, with patio Pilates on Saturdays. Single sessions and an unlimited membership are available.
Tribe Performance in Chula Vista is a veteran-owned studio with cold plunge tubs kept around 39–41°F, a traditional sauna, and compression therapy. Access is through drop-ins, resident and visitor passes, packages, and memberships, so check which pass applies to you.
With multi-service studios, confirm exactly what a session, pack, or membership covers before you compare prices.
Infrared studio with a cold shower
Perspire Sauna Studio - 4S Ranch offers private infrared sauna suites with red light therapy and in-suite SNØ cold showers at 45°F, plus halotherapy. It lists a cold shower rather than a cold plunge, so it is an option if you want infrared heat with a cold rinse rather than full immersion.
Booking and what to bring
Most San Diego venues sell single sessions or intro offers alongside packs and memberships; compare the total cost and the commitment before signing up, using our membership or drop-in guide. For a first visit, our first-visit checklist covers the questions to ask, and what to bring to a sauna, bathhouse or cold plunge covers packing and swimwear rules. Most venues here use infrared heat, while Tribe Performance lists a traditional sauna; our traditional versus infrared guide explains the differences to ask about.
Cold water and heat are not suitable for everyone. If you have a health condition or any doubt, speak to a healthcare professional before booking.
How we compiled this guide
We list venues that offer sauna or cold plunge access to the public in the San Diego area and checked each one's facilities and booking model against its own website on 9 October 2026. We have not visited them, and inclusion is not an endorsement. Paid placements, if any, are labelled. Operators can suggest a correction. See our editorial policy.
